The Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute National Technical University has developed and tested a new gas-powered mortar.

As reported by Censor.NET citing 5 Channel, the new mortar boasts numerous unique features. In particular, it needs no gunpowder. A shell is pushed by a gas mixture with firing range reaching 1,500 meters. The mortar recharges automatically.

"It needs no gunpowder, shoots quietly and is effective in close combat," developers say.
