German opposition leader Mertz called on German government to hand over tanks to Ukraine

German opposition leader Friedrich Merz demands that the federal government supply Ukraine with battle tanks and armored personnel carriers.

"The more we help, the sooner this war will end," he said in response to Chancellor Olaf Scholz's statement in the Bundestag.

Mertz said that the government is being covered by NATO partners, but this is a mistake.

"It's mostly up to you," Mertz told the chancellor, adding that the government could easily provide heavy equipment.
