Last night, on 17 January, the military used the FrankenSAM air defence system for the first time in combat. It shot down a Shahed from a distance of 9 kilometres.

As Censor.NET  informs, this was announced at the Davos forum by the Minister for Strategic Industry of Ukraine Oleksandr Kamyshin

He noted that this was the first use of the FrankenSAM system and added that all these systems have already been deployed "on the battlefield"

"Instead of developing a new air defense system from scratch, which would take many years, we took Soviet components and applied Western missiles to it. Or we took Western launchers and applied Soviet missiles to them," Kamyshin said.

He added that on January 17, the Ukrainian military successfully used this system for the first time.

"Today we shot down a Shahed within nine kilometers. I am very pleased that we deployed it on the battlefield, protecting our skies and our people," the minister summarized.

As previously Censor.NET  reported, Ukraine and the United States have created "hybrid" air defense systems as part of the FrankenSAM program. This project involves the integration of RIM-7 Sea Sparrow missiles into the "Buk" air defense system, the integration of the AIM-9M air-to-air missile with Soviet RLS, and another project that is called the most powerful.
