Yanukovych Appointed New Head of Security Service of Ukraine
President Viktor Yanukovych has appointed Oleksandr Yakimenko head of the Security Service of Ukraine.
Yakimenko Oleksandr was born in 1964. He graduated from Yeisk Aviation School. After graduation he served in Mongolia (Choibalsan), then in the Crimea (Gvardiysk). In 1997 he graduated from the Gagarin Air Force Academy. According to Yakimenko, he was a fighter pilot and flew Su-37s. He left the army in 1998. Until 5 August 2011 he. was Director of Sevastopol SSU.
On August 5, 2011 Yakimenko was appointed head of the Security Service of Donetsk oblast. Then took over the post of deputy head of the Security Service of Ukraine and the Chief of the Anti-Corruption department. The corresponding decree was published on the official site of the President on July 5, 2012. Dismissal of his predecessor Rokitskyy was explained by the fact that he was a member of the team of ex head of SSU Valerii Khoroshkovskyy. According to sources, recently Yakimenko has been closely associated with Oleksandr Yanukovych.
