Ukraine Preparing Free Trade Agreement and Visa Relaxation with Canada

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko met with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper during his visit to Canada.

Poroshenko expressed his gratitude to the Government of Canada for its consistent support of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and the Ukrainian efforts to stabilize the situation in the Donbas, Censor.NET reports citing the head of state press service.

The Ukrainian President praised the assistance of Canada in helping to strengthen defense capability of Ukraine and financial resources allocation by the Canadian side for the implementation of NATO initiatives to improve logistics and standardization of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The parties also agreed to resume joint work on the draft Ukrainian-Canadian Free Trade Agreement and discussed the possibility of starting negotiations on relaxation of Canadian visa requirements for the Ukrainian citizens.

Wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation was discussed, in particular, the prospects for expanding cooperation in investment and energy fields.

The President thanked the Canadian side for granting Ukraine $ 200 million loan for economic recovery and social stability ensuring.
