Russia to insist its monitors observe Ukraine elections

Moscow intends to have their monitors observe Ukraine elections through international institutions, such as the OSCE.

Russia Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin said this at a press conference in Moscow, Censor.NET reports citing Radio Svoboda.

"There are relevant international institutions, including the OSCE’s Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, said Karasin. There is the international law and internationally established practice, according to which our observers have the right to participate in the procedure for monitoring the Ukrainian elections. This is our precondition."

Earlier, Russia’s Central Election Commission addressed its Foreign Ministry with a list of possible members to the OSCE monitoring mission for the presidential elections in Ukraine.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov claims that Moscow received an OSCE invitation to monitor the upcoming elections in Ukraine.

In turn, Ukraine Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin said that Kyiv would not accept applications from Russian monitors.
