Belarus’ self-proclaimed President Alexander Lukashenko and Russian President Vladimir Putin have noted "effectiveness" of talks held in Minsk on Monday.

As informs Censor.NЕТ, it was reported by Belarusian agency "BELTA".

In their statements after the meeting they did not touch upon military issues or the war in Ukraine. Putin spoke on economic issues.

In particular, Putin said: " In general, if we consider the 30% growth of trade turnover last year, these are concrete things. These are jobs, salaries for people. And this year we can reach $40 billion - it is a significant amount".

The Russian dictator also noted that Russia and Belarus are successfully fighting Western sanctions together.

Lukashenko, in turn, stressed: "We have just summed up our work in a broad composition and found that we have moved away from governmental issues. But we have returned our debt and discussed the whole range of issues of Belarusian-Russian relations. Social and economic issues... It is already evening. But we have considered all the issues. It will be easier to continue. Thank you very much. I think people will appreciate our decisions that we have made here today and the strategy."

To recap, Vladimir Putin paid a visit to Lukashenko for the first time since 2019.
