The Russian occupiers fired almost 200 artillery shells at Ukrainian positions in the area of Bakhmut, Donetsk region over the past 24 hours, but lost more than 500 people killed and wounded in the fighting.
This was reported by Serhii Cherevaty, the spokesman of the Eastern Group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Censor.NET informs with reference to Interfax-Ukraine.
"Bakhmut continues to be one of the main directions of the enemy's attack - there they hit our positions 197 times with rocket-propelled artillery, there were 42 combat clashes. The enemy lost a lot of personnel during this day: 277 enemies were killed, 258 were wounded of various degrees. The fighting took place in the area of Spirne, Krasna Hora, Paraskoviivka, Bakhmut, Klishchiivka," he said.
He also said that the occupiers were not able to cut the route used to support the group of Ukrainian defenders in Bakhmut: "So far they have not succeeded, everything is being done so that they cannot block the movement of our units. All the necessary ammunition, equipment, food, and ammunition are delivered to Bakhmut," said the speaker of the Eastern Group.
Answering a question about the possibility of withdrawal of Ukrainian units from Bakhmut, the representative of the Ukrainian Armed Forces noted that such decisions are taken into account in the context of the general situation to preserve personnel and occupy better positions, and they are carried out in several stages.
"The command has various options for action, the command constantly monitors the enemy and we have a countermeasure for each of his actions," Cherevaty said.
