Russia seeks to develop new line of attack in Donetsk region to divert Ukrainian forces from Bakhmut sector, - British intelligence

Russian troops advanced several hundred meters near Vuhledar. However, despite certain successes, the occupiers do not have the strength to break through.

This was reported by Censor.NET with reference to the Twitter of the Ministry of Defense of Great Britain.

"Over the past three days, Russian troops, after combat reconnaissance, launched a coordinated attack in the area of the cities of Pavlivka and Vuhledar. These settlements are located 50 km southwest of Donetsk, and Russia previously used the 155th Marine Brigade in an unsuccessful attack on the same area in November 2022. Now, Russian forces have probably advanced several hundred meters beyond the small Kashlagach river, which for several months has been the front line," the British intelligence report says.

The Russian command probably wants to develop a new direction of attack in the Donetsk region, which is held by Ukraine, and to divert Ukrainian forces from the hot Bakhmut sector.

"There is a real possibility that Russia will continue to make local gains in this sector. However, it is unlikely that Russia has enough idle troops in the area to achieve an operationally significant breakthrough," the British Ministry of Defense noted.
