The Baltic countries and Poland oppose the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in the Olympic Games, this also applies to the possibility of performing under a neutral flag, Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevichs said on Tuesday in Riga.

This is reported by Censor.NET with reference to Interfax-Ukraine.

"We all agree that for now Russia, with the support of Belarus, continues unprovoked direct aggression against Ukraine, such a step cannot be supported, it is unacceptable," the head of Latvian diplomacy told reporters.

As noted, a meeting of the heads of foreign affairs of the Baltic countries and Poland took place in Riga on Tuesday.

In February 2022, due to aggression against Ukraine, the IOC recommended that international sports federations remove Russians and Belarusians from their tournaments. Most of the federations listened to the recommendations of the IOC.

On January 25, 2023, the IOC issued a statement according to which Russian and Belarusian athletes may be allowed to participate in international competitions in a neutral status, provided that they do not support the Russian military invasion of Ukraine.

The Summer Olympics in Paris will be held from July 26 to August 11, 2024.

Ukraine is also categorically against the admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes to international competitions.
