Ukraine has become completely independent from Russia regarding nuclear fuel, - Halushchenko
Ukraine has diversified the supply of nuclear fuel for nuclear power generation and today is completely independent from Russia.
Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko said this during the telethon, Censor.NET informs with reference to Ukrinform.
"Even before the great aggression of Russia, we began to diversify the supply of nuclear fuel for our nuclear generation. Accordingly, at the time when the great attack occurred, we received half of all fuel from Russia, half from Westinghouse USA. That is, in fact, we have already diversified the supply of fuel. Accordingly, when the great aggression began, we immediately broke all agreements with Russia and calmly see how we can provide ourselves with fuel without TVEL fuel (the Russian nuclear fuel producer OJSC TVEL - ed.), the minister noted.
According to Halushchenko, Ukraine previously exported spent nuclear fuel to Russia for processing. However, even before the full-scale invasion, she stopped this contract.
"We informed the Russians that we will no longer export fuel to them. Because we have completed the storage of spent fuel in Ukraine, it has been put into operation. And this also gives us the opportunity to avoid dependence," Halushchenko said.
