New Zealand urges China not to provide Russia with weapons

New Zealand Minister Mahuta condemned Russia’s unlawful invasion of Ukraine.

During a meeting with her Chinese counterpart, Qin Gang, New Zealand's Foreign Minister Nanaya Mahuta expressed concern about providing any lethal assistance to Russia. Earlier, NATO confirmed that the Kremlin had asked Beijing for such assistance, informs Censor.NЕТ with reference to UNIAN.

According to the government press service of New Zealand, this visit was the first visit of the New Zealand Foreign Minister to China since 2018. During the trip, Minister Mahuta condemned Russia's illegal invasion of Ukraine and reaffirmed her country's commitment to the UN Charter and the protection of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

"New Zealand will be concerned about any provision of lethal assistance in support of Russia's illegal war," Nanaya Mahuta said at her first meeting with China's newly appointed Foreign Minister Qin Gang.

Nanaya Mahuta also expressed concern over developments in the South China Sea and rising tensions in the Taiwan Strait, the human rights situation in Xinjiang, and rights and freedoms in Hong Kong.
