Ukrainian Armed Forces counteroffensive may begin in summer - Shmyhal

A counteroffensive could begin in the summer. To do so, Ukraine must be more than 100% ready.

This was stated by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal, who is currently in Washington, reports Censor.NЕТ with reference to publication The Hill.

Shmyhal noted that the Ukrainian government is under strong pressure from its own society to counterattack.

However, he added: "We do not feel any pressure from our partners and allies. They understand that in order for us to launch a counteroffensive, we need more than one hundred percent readiness."

Asked whether the leak of classified Pentagon documents containing, among other things, information on Ukraine could have any impact on the plans of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Shmyhal said that Ukraine would definitely liberate its land.

"We have repeatedly proved that we can do this. We are asking our international partners for more military capabilities, such as tanks, ammunition, aircraft, armored vehicles," he said.

Shmyhal also added that "we, of course, have economic losses and losses of human lives - all this causes us great harm. But this does not mean that we do not have enough courage and inspiration to fight until victory."

The publication notes that Shmyhal's mission to Washington is part of Ukraine's military strategy. While combat preparations are underway, the prime minister is tasked with rallying partner countries to provide economic support, which is as vital to Ukraine as its military defense.
