Ukrainian forces took positions on left bank of Kherson region, - ISW

Russian "militants" have provided enough geographically bound video footage and text messages that confirm that Ukrainian forces have taken up positions on the eastern bank of the Kherson region.

This is stated in the report of the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), Censor.NET informs.

"Geolocation footage published by a Russian blogger on April 22 shows that Ukrainian forces took up positions on the banks of the Dnipro north of Oleshok (7 km southwest of Kherson) and advanced to the northern outskirts of the settlement on the E97 route, as well as west of Dacha (10 km south of Kherson).

This footage also indicates that Russian forces may not be in control of the islands on the Kinka and Chayka rivers, located less than half a kilometer north of the Ukrainian military's geolocation positions near the Antonivsky Bridge," the report said.

Also, according to the Institute's analysts, on April 20 and 22, Russian "militants" claimed that Ukrainian forces have been holding positions on the eastern bank of the Kherson region for several weeks, have established stable supply lines to these positions, and regularly carry out sorties, which indicates the lack of Russian control over this district. Another Russian blogger's battle map claims that Russian forces are not in control of some islands in the Dnipro delta southwest of Kherson, indicating a possible advance of Ukrainian troops to those islands.

Analysts also noted that some Russian "militants" complained that the low intensity of artillery fire due to the excessive centralization of Russian military command allowed Ukrainian troops to land on the eastern bank.

"Russian forces may prefer to maintain their defenses in urban areas such as Oleshky and Nova Kakhovka, leaving islands in the Dnieper delta uninhabited. The scale and intentions of these Ukrainian positions remain unclear, as well as the ability and readiness of Ukraine to maintain a stable position in this area," the institute said.

The ISW emphasized that for the first time, they recognize the territory on the eastern bank of the Dnipro in the Kherson region as controlled by Ukraine, as it has only recently received reliable geolocation images of Ukrainian positions on the eastern bank, as well as Russian reports from various sources about the long-term Ukrainian presence in this area.
