The European Union and Japan opposed the US plan to ban almost all exports to Russia.

This was reported by the Financial Times, citing sources, Censor.NET reports, citing Ukrainska Pravda.

According to the FT, the statement of the G7 leaders, which is being prepared for a meeting in Hiroshima next month, contains a promise to replace the current regime of sectoral sanctions against Russia with a complete export ban with a few exceptions, the newspaper writes. In particular, it is proposed to make exceptions for agricultural, medical, and other products.

However, according to the newspaper, citing informed sources, representatives of Japan and the EU countries at a meeting held last week spoke out against the implementation of the US proposals.

"From our point of view, this is simply impossible," said one official, speaking on condition of anonymity.

It is noted that the White House National Security Council refused to comment on conversations with G7 partners, saying that the United States would continue to look for ways to bring Russia to justice.
