The plan is aimed at strengthening the stability of Ukrainian state institutions, strengthening democratic governance and the rule of law, and protecting the fundamental rights of citizens. It also aims to support the implementation of reforms necessary for Ukraine's European integration.
"Over the next four years, we will continue to work with the Ukrainian authorities to meet their needs and priorities, in particular in the areas of constitutional justice, the fight against corruption and money laundering; the development of an independent, effective, and reliable justice system; the promotion of freedom of speech and the freedom of the media, strengthening the protection of rights national minorities," said Dr. Klaus Neukirch, director of the Council of Europe Program Coordination Directorate.
Thanks to the involved resources, as of January 1, 2023, it was possible to start 18 projects that cover the protection of the rights of IDPs and people affected by the war; documenting and investigating human rights violations in wartime conditions; fight against discrimination; support for the functioning of the judicial system; ensuring media freedom and strengthening ethics and others.
The participants of the meeting expressed readiness for further work within the framework of the new Action Plan for strengthening internal reforms, countering Russian aggression and getting closer to EU membership.
