The agreement on defense cooperation between Finland and the United States will provide for the possibility of the presence of American military personnel and military equipment on Finnish territory, as well as the conduct of military exercises. The agreement does not cover nuclear weapons.
As Censor.NET informs, this is reported by ZN.UA with reference to Helsingin Sanomat.
It is noted that the countries are currently negotiating a Defense Cooperation Agreement (DCA), which allows:
🔹 deployment of American troops, their stay in the country;
🔹pre-storage of military equipment;
🔹possible US investments in local infrastructure.
According to the publication, negotiations on the agreement at the official level will continue until 2024, after which the draft document will be submitted to the parliament for consideration.
As of early 2022, the US has signed DCA or similar agreements with 17 EU and NATO members and six transatlantic allies, including Norway.
