AFU repulsed 55 enemy attacks in 4 directions, - General Staff
Russian troops continue to focus their main efforts on the Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka, and Mariinka directions. Heavy fighting continues for the towns of Bakhmut and Mariinka.

Thus, the four hundred and thirty-ninth day of the Russian Federation's large-scale armed aggression against our country has begun.
At night, on 8 May 2023, the enemy attacked the territory of Ukraine again, using Iranian Shahed attack drones. 35 of the 35 drones were destroyed by our defenders.
Continuing its tactics of terror, the Russian Federation launched 16 missile attacks yesterday, in particular on cities in Kharkiv, Kherson, Mykolaiv, and Odesa regions. In addition, 61 airstrikes and 52 hostile attacks from multiple launch rocket systems were recorded at the positions of our troops and populated areas. Unfortunately, there were killed and wounded civilians, a multi-story building, private homes, and other civilian infrastructure were damaged.
The probability of further Russian missile and air strikes on the entire territory of Ukraine remains high.
The enemy is focusing its main efforts on the Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka, and Mariinka directions. Heavy fighting continues for the towns of Bakhmut and Mariinka. In total, 55 enemy attacks were repelled in the above-mentioned frontline areas over the last day.
No signs of enemy offensive groups forming in the Volyn and Polissia directions were observed.
In the Siversk and Slobozhansk directions, the enemy maintains a military presence in the areas bordering Ukraine. Over the past 24 hours, the enemy carried out air strikes near the settlements of Zarichchia, Leonivka, and Kostobobriv in the Chernihiv region and Hlukhiv in the Sumy region. It fired mortar and artillery shells at Orlykivka, Tymonovychi, Zarichchia, Bleshnya, Zalizny Mist, Arkhypivka, Leonivka, Buchky in the Chernihiv region; Stara Huta, Seredyna-Buda, Bachivsk, Ulanove, Vorozhba, Iskryskivka, and Novhorodske in the Sumy region; and Udy, Vovchansk, Pletenivka, Bochkove, Mala Vovcha, Nesterne, Budarky and Stroiivka in the Kharkiv region.
The enemy did not conduct any offensive in the Kupyansk direction. It carried out air strikes in the areas of Hrianikivka and Vilshana. Artillery and mortar attacks were carried out on the settlements of Krasne Pershne, Fiholivka, Novomlynsk, Zakhidne, Lyman Pershne, Berestove in the Kharkiv region and Novoselivske and Stelmakhivka in the Luhansk region.
In the Lyman direction, the enemy conducted unsuccessful offensive actions in the direction of Spirne over the last day. It carried out air strikes near the settlements of Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region, as well as Torske and Spirne in the Donetsk region. Stelmakhivka, Makiivka, and Nevske in the Luhansk region and Bilohorivka and Spirne in the Donetsk region came under artillery fire.
In the Bakhmut direction, the enemy continues to conduct offensive actions. Fighting continues in the city of Bakhmut, the occupants fired incendiary and phosphorus ammunition at the city. During the day, the enemy conducted unsuccessful offensives in the direction of the settlements of Khromove, Ivanivske, Chasiv Yar, and Stupochky. It carried out air strikes near the settlements of Bakhmut, Bohdanivka, Kurdiumivka, and New York. Zaliznyanske, Orikhovo-Vasylivka, Novomarkove, Markove, Bakhmut, Ivanivske, Chasiv Yar, Stupochki, Oleksandr-Shultine and Leonidivka in the Donetsk region suffered from enemy shelling.
In the Avdiivka direction, the enemy conducted offensive actions in the areas of Avdiivka and Pervomayske yesterday but was unsuccessful. It fired at the localities of Keramik, Novokalynove, Ocheretyne, Berdychi, Avdiivka, Vodiane, Pervomayske, Nevelske, Netaylove, Karlivka, and Ostrove in the Donetsk region.
In the Mariinka direction, Ukrainian defense forces repelled numerous enemy attacks in the area of Mariinka. At the same time, Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka, Kurakhove, and Pobeda in the Donetsk region came under enemy fire.
In the Shakhtarsk direction, the enemy did not conduct any offensive actions. It fired at the settlements of Novomykhailivka, Katerynivka, Yelizavetivka, Vuhledar, Pavlivka, Prechystivka, Zolota Nyva, Novoukrainka, Shakhtarske and Velyka Novosilka in Donetsk region.
The enemy continues to conduct defensive actions in the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson directions. It carried out air strikes near Vremivka in the Donetsk region and Huliaypole and Novodanilivka in the Zaporizhzhia region. Meanwhile, it shelled more than 50 localities. Among them are Poltavka, Charivne, Novoandriivka in Zaporizhzhia region; Zmiivka, Prydniprovske, Romashkove, Yantarne, Kizomys, Sofiivka, Stanislav in the Kherson region and the city of Kherson.
The Russian occupiers are conducting the so-called evacuation of local residents from the temporarily occupied Tokmak, Zaporizhzhia region, in the direction of the city of Berdiansk. Representatives of the so-called local 'authorities', collaborators, children, teachers, and educators are subject to this procedure. At the same time, parents of children are threatened with not having their children's school year counted if they refuse to "evacuate" their children.
There are queues for fuel at petrol stations, and all drivers have been informed that no new fuel supplies are planned.
In Vesele, Zaporizhzhia region, the local police department of the enemy is closed and does not function. The day before, the destruction of this institution's documentation was observed.
Over the past day, the aviation of the Defence Forces conducted 8 strikes on the areas of concentration of enemy personnel and military equipment, as well as a strike on an enemy anti-aircraft missile system.
Our defenders also destroyed two enemy strikes and six reconnaissance UAVs.
At the same time, missile and artillery units hit 2 control points, 2 areas of concentration of occupiers' weapons and military equipment, as well as 3 enemy ammunition depots.
