The spokesman for the Eastern grouping of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Serhiy Cherevaty, explained Yevhen Prygozhyn’s statement about the complete capture of Bakhmut by the intention of the leader of the Wagner PMC to withdraw his mercenaries from the destroyed city, which could be surrounded by Ukrainian defenders.

As informs Censor.NЕТ, Serhiy Cherevaty said this in a commentary for "Free radio"

On May 20, the leader of the Wagner PMC, Yevhen Prigozhyn, posted a video near the railway station in the center of Bakhmut, claiming that his mercenaries had allegedly completely seized the city and that on May 25 they would hand over its "defense" to Russian Defense Ministry soldiers and leave.

Ukraine's Defense Ministry denied the capture of Bakhmut, saying that despite the "critical situation" in the city, Ukrainian soldiers control some facilities.

Cherevaty also assured that Ukrainian defenders are holding a number of buildings in Bakhmut.

Cherevaty stated: "The fighting continues, we are holding a number of buildings in Bakhmut...

We have actually wiped out his (Prigozhyn's - ed.) very powerful group. It is close to destruction.

You understand that he says he will withdraw his troops, and he took Bakhmut. That's the only reason he says it. "The boy said, the boy did," and then do what you want - just let me go. He turned tail (and ran away - ed.) because he lost his best people.

In fact, his Wagner group is broken".
