Zelensky: If Ukraine does not receive clear signal from NATO, we have nothing to do at summit in Vilnius

It is expedient for Ukraine to participate in the July NATO summit in Vilnius only if it receives a clear signal about its future membership in the Alliance.

President Volodymyr Zelensky said this in an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Censor.NET reports.

He emphasized that the participating countries of the summit should decide on the prospects of Ukraine's admission to NATO. Otherwise, according to Zelensky, our country's participation in the meeting makes no sense.

"I believe that some NATO countries are so afraid of Russia that they are not ready to see Ukraine in the Alliance. If they do not see us [in NATO] and do not give us some kind of signal in Vilnius, I believe that Ukraine has nothing to do at this summit," he said the President.

He emphasized that it is not about acquiring membership before the victory over the Russian Federation, but about post-war guarantees.

"We don't want to join NATO during the war, it's too late. It should have been done in these 15 years "before". It is clear that we will not be in NATO or any other strong alliance that would guarantee security during this war. But tell me how many lives of Ukrainians is worth one phrase at the Vilnius summit: "Ukraine will be in NATO after this war after it is safe"? How much does it cost?" Zelensky asked.
