Situation at ZNPP is unstable and potentially dangerous, - head of IAEA Grossi

The general situation at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant remains extremely unstable and potentially dangerous.
This is stated in the report published by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Censor.NET reports.
In this document, the head of the organization, Rafael Grossi, assessed the situation at the station and emphasized the importance of observing five principles to prevent a nuclear accident.
"Although the principles received broad support in the UN Security Council, which is a very encouraging and important step forward for guaranteeing nuclear safety at the Zaporizhzhia NPP, the overall situation at the facility remains extremely unstable and potentially dangerous," Grossi noted.
The ZNPP has been without an external back-up power source for three months, making it extremely vulnerable in the event that the only operational transmission line fails again, the report said.
On May 30, the director of the IAEA presented to the UN Security Council five principles aimed at preventing a nuclear accident.
According to one of the principles, the external power supply of the ZNPP should not be at risk, and all efforts should be made to keep the off-site power source available and secure at all times.
In other principles, there was an obligation not to carry out military attacks from the territory of the station or in its direction, not to use the facility as a warehouse or base for heavy weapons, as well as to protect the structures, systems and components necessary for the safe and reliable operation of the station, from attacks and sabotage.
Grossi added that there is currently a need to step up efforts to guarantee a more stable and predictable external power supply at the ZNPP.
The head of the IAEA plans to visit the Zaporizhzhia NPP soon, which will be his third visit to the facility.
