Sweden has fulfilled all requirements for joining NATO, - Stoltenberg

Sweden has fulfilled all the requirements for joining NATO. Stockholm may join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization before the summit in Vilnius in July.

As Censor.NET informs, this was announced by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, RBC-Ukraine reports with reference to a press conference with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

He said Turkey has "legitimate security assurances" because no other NATO member has suffered so many terrorist attacks.

"Sweden has taken significant concrete steps to address Turkey's concerns, including amending the constitution, ending the arms embargo and strengthening counter-terrorism cooperation," Stoltenberg said.

He added that only a few days ago, important anti-terrorist legislation came into force in Sweden.

"Therefore, Sweden has fulfilled its obligations," said the Secretary General.

After applying to join NATO, Sweden has been trying to become a new member of the North Atlantic Alliance for more than a year. Currently, Hungary and Turkey refuse to ratify its membership.

In particular, Turkey accuses Sweden of "supporting terrorism". The situation was further aggravated when a group of protesters burned a Koran in front of Ankara's embassy in Sweden.
