The destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant led to the fact that about 700,000 people do not have proper access to drinking water.

Martin Griffiths, UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, stated this in an interview with the Associated Press, Censor.NET reports with reference to Suspilne.

The official also added that the incident has large-scale international consequences. In particular, according to Griffiths, the rise in water levels caused by the destruction of the dam will lead to an increase in grain prices.

"The consequences will be empty granaries, as you know, in this southern part of Ukraine. The ability of that part of Ukraine to grow the grain on which the world depends will be significantly reduced. This will mean a decrease in grain exports to the global South, an increase in grain prices around the world. And the consequence is that people who need humanitarian assistance to survive will have less access to the food they need," Griffiths said.

According to him, the situation with mine pollution also causes concern.

"There is another danger to people, which is that much of this agricultural land is mined as a result of the war. Floods inundate these areas. And we will definitely see these mines floating where people don't expect them." the official explained.

The official also mentioned the damage to the Tolyatti-Odesa pipeline, which caused difficulties with the distribution of ammonia, a key ingredient for fertilizer production.

"Opening this pipeline and delivering ammonia across the Black Sea to the Global South is a priority for all of us," Griffiths said.
