Ukrainian counteroffensive continues to show steady progress, - Austin
Ukrainian troops are fighting hard to liberate their homeland from the occupiers.
This was stated by US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin, opening the meeting in the Ramstein format, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrinform.
"The Ukrainian counter-offensive continues to show steady progress," he said.
Austin noted that Ukrainian troops are fighting hard, liberating sovereign territories from Russian invaders and breaking through the powerful defence lines of the aggressor's army. The Pentagon chief also stressed the role of partners, including members of the Contact Group, in the success of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and assured that assistance would continue as long as necessary and would serve to strengthen the Ukrainian army in the long run.
"Make no mistake: we will stand by the Ukrainians," the US Secretary of Defence assured.
According to him, history will show the failure of Putin's senseless and brutal, imperial, unprovoked aggression against a peaceful neighbour. Ukraine is fighting for a just cause, and therefore has the will and strength to defeat the Kremlin, Austin stressed. He noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin tried to demoralise Ukrainians, and as a result demoralised his own military. The Kremlin has isolated itself from the world and has remained with its own kind - countries such as Iran and North Korea, he said.
