European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that the EU will fulfill its promise to supply Ukraine with one million pieces of ammunition by 2024.

This is reported by European Pravda with reference to Bloomberg, Censor.NET informs.

"We are building up our industry and military-industrial base. We pay a lot of attention to this. We are doing our best and working hard to fulfill the task," said von der Leyen.

She added that Ukraine is making rapid progress in implementing reforms and can quickly become a member of the European Union.

"I am impressed by the way Ukraine is implementing very difficult reforms while they are at war. If they keep up this pace - and I see that they are absolutely motivated - this will be a decisive moment," the European Commission President stressed.

She declined to give a specific timeframe but expressed confidence that Kyiv would eventually succeed in its EU membership bid.

In the spring, EU member states pledged to increase supplies of artillery shells to Ukraine as Ukrainian forces faced a shortage of much-needed ammunition.

The two countries agreed on a two billion euro plan to supply ammunition from their stockpiles and place joint orders for the production of shells. The goal was to transfer one million rounds of ammunition to Ukraine within 12 months.
