Germany will help Ukraine collect evidence of Russian environmental crimes

Germany will provide support to Ukraine in gathering evidence about Russian environmental crimes. The relevant Memorandum of Cooperation was signed by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources and the German company PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).
This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, Censor.NET reports.
"We will work with our partners on the architecture of the Platform, as well as on the methodology for assessing environmental damage as a result of the war. German colleagues will provide support to the government of Ukraine in gathering evidence about Russia's environmental crimes. We plan to implement pilot projects along the full track: from the recording of such crimes to the determination of damages and preparation of lawsuits," said Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Ruslan Strelets.
He noted that during the full-scale invasion, the State Inspectorate had already recorded more than 2,500 crimes committed by Russia against the Ukrainian environment.
A year ago, the amount of accrued losses reached about 26 billion euros. Currently, it has already doubled and amounts to 55 billion euros.
"We do not stop working to ensure that the occupier bears fair responsibility for every centimeter of destroyed Ukrainian land, as well as to ensure that every aggressor in the future clearly knows that destroying the environment in any corner of the planet is expensive and will have to be paid for," he added.
