Open-source intelligence has become real tool for both sides of this war, - Defense Ministry

The enemy will receive a lot of information from open sources, so it makes sense to report on the liberation of the settlement two days later and observe information silence when the military asks for it.
This was stated by the head of the Press and Information Department of the Ministry of Defense Illarion Pavliuk on the air of the telethon, Censor.NET reports with reference to Ukrinform.
"The phenomenon of this war is due to the fact that we have a democratic society, the enemy often learns about some events not from its own sources, not from its own intelligence, but from open sources, the media. And so when the military says "Please don't report this event," it makes sense. It makes sense to report on the liberated settlement two days later. Because the enemy uses open sources not only because everyone uses them, but also, in particular, because the enemy himself has problems with how negative information moves from the front to the commands. In a totalitarian society, this is especially the problem: you want to report more than show the real state of affairs. And we definitely don't have to help the enemy in this," Pavliuk said.
He noted that open-source intelligence has become a real tool for both the Ukrainian side and the enemy.
"As soon as information from open sources gives the enemy the opportunity to understand something, he uses it immediately," Pavliuk said.
He added that restrictions on the dissemination of certain information apply not only to the media, but also to various bloggers and Telegram channels.
"The information field is a mosaic, very different information: reliable, unreliable, rumors, fakes, someone's information operations, someone's perception of the event, that is already very disconnected from the event. When intelligence works from open sources, it assembles all this mosaic, as if it were a picture of puzzles. We want the enemy to have as few puzzle pieces as possible," Pavliuk summed up.
