Zaluzhnyi’s assistant Chastiakov died due to explosion of donated grenade - Klymenko
Major Hennadii Chastiakov died during the celebration of his birthday, when he pulled out the ring of a presented grenade.
This was announced by the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ihor Klymenko, in a telegram, Censor.NET reports.
As a result of primary investigative actions, it was possible to find out the first circumstances of the tragedy. Today was the birthday of the deceased Major Chastiakov.
"He returned home from work with gifts from colleagues, which he began to show to his family. He took out a gift box with grenades inside and started showing one of the ammunition to his son. These were grenades of the new Western model. First, the son took the ammunition and started turning the ring. Then the serviceman took the grenade from the child and pulled out the ring, provoking a tragic explosion," Klymenko writes.
He notes that the police found 5 more such unexploded grenades in the apartment. They will be sent for examination.
Earlier it was reported that Chatiakov died as a result of the detonation of an unknown explosive device. This information was confirmed by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Valerii Zaluzhnyi.
According to the information of the National Police of Ukraine, the tragedy happened in a residential complex in the Chaiky village in the Kyiv region. After receiving a report of the explosion, the police urgently arrived at the scene.
According to preliminary information, a 39-year-old serviceman died as a result of a grenade detonation. His 13-year-old son was seriously injured. The boy is under the supervision of doctors.
