EU should become state, - former Italian Prime Minister Draghi

Former Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi said that the EU is at a turning point and now the bloc needs to unite in order to "become a state".
This is reported by Censor.NET with reference to Ukrinform.
According to him, he is "concerned" about the critical moment that Europe is currently experiencing.
"Let's hope that the fundamental values that united us will hold us together. Today, the growth model has fallen apart and we need to reinvent the way we grow, but for that, we need to become a state," he added.
Draghi said it was time to come together and overcome the difficulties of fragmented EU regulation in every sector, which slows down the bloc's work, especially in response to emergencies.
Speaking about the EU's market potential, Draghi called it "too small", adding that "there are many markets, so small companies created in the EU, as soon as they grow, are sold or go to the United States."
However, Draghi said the EU could gain strength over time, especially as enlargement is already under discussion.
"Europe spends 3-5 times more than the Russian Federation, we are the second largest investor in military spending after the USA. So, it is a matter of better coordination (…)This is a special moment when we have to reconsider many assumptions about our shared existence," he concluded.
