He reminds that a video of the execution by Russian servicemen of Ukrainian soldiers who surrendered as prisoners has appeared on the Internet! This is another violation of the Geneva Conventions and disrespect for international humanitarian law!
"The Russian side shows its terrorist face again and again! The world should not condone such crimes," Lubinets notes.
Therefore, as the ombudsman of Ukraine, he intends to appeal to:
- The International Committee of the Red Cross, whose mandate provides for the recording of crimes against prisoners of war. And the video clearly shows that the Ukrainian military is taking the necessary steps, which shows that they are surrendering! The soldiers were disarmed, and their hands were raised to the mountain. They did not pose any threat! The Russian side had to capture them and give them the status of prisoners of war.
- to the United Nations Organization, so that the permanent monitoring mission of the UN records this fact as another vivid example of Russia's violation of the norms of international humanitarian law.
"The Russian Federation must be punished for every similar case of the execution of Ukrainian soldiers who surrender! I would like to note that they are not alone - this is also the murder of the soldier Oleksandr Matsievskyi and other soldiers who surrendered. This is also the public execution of prisoners of war in Olenivka!
I believe that our law enforcement and intelligence agencies will be able to identify those Russian servicemen who committed this crime! At the same time, I will note that such crimes are also the responsibility of the top management of the Russian Federation! Everyone should be punished!" Lubinets sums up.
