Russia and Iran signed a declaration in which they pledged to work together to counter Western sanctions imposed on both countries, which they call "illegal".

This was reported by Censor.NET with reference to Russian media and a statement by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

"We have just signed a declaration on ways and means to counteract, mitigate and compensate for the negative consequences of unilateral coercive measures. This is certainly an important step in increasing the coordination of efforts by members of the international community to overcome the illegal sanctions that the United States and its allies have made a substitute for diplomacy," Lavrov said during a meeting with his Iranian counterpart in Moscow.

Lavrov's meeting with the Iranian foreign minister took place on the sidelines of a ministerial meeting of the five Caspian Sea countries - Russia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan.

Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi will visit Moscow on Thursday, 7 December.
