Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico says he opposes Ukraine’s membership in NATO.

The head of the Slovak government announced his intention to use the veto on such a decision as long as "I have the opportunity to influence the Slovak political scene."
"It is not surprising that the party that makes up the majority in the Slovak government will not agree with Ukraine's membership in NATO, because it would be the beginning of the third world war," Fico said and added that he believes "this will never happen."
Fico noted that at a meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg voiced his position on Ukraine's accession to the bloc.
The Slovak Prime Minister also voiced the opinion that it will take years for Ukraine to join the European Union, and he is not against the European integration of the neighboring state.
"If in order to support Ukraine, it was necessary to make such an overrated political gesture - I have no problems with this... but it must fulfill all the conditions," Fico said.
