The Verkhovna Rada should set up a separate committee to be responsible for adapting national legislation to NATO standards.

This was announced by Parliament Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk, Censor.NET reports with reference to Interfax-Ukraine.

"As we enter the eve of the Washington Summit, I am initiating the creation of a committee on NATO. There is an idea to create a separate committee in the near future that would take over all the functions of bringing Ukrainian legislation in line with NATO standards. If we want to make progress in NATO, we must have people who deal with this issue in the parliament," Stefanchuk said.

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada reminded that Ukraine currently has two important foreign policy vectors related to the European Union and NATO. He emphasized that the EU is the subject of a separate committee, while NATO "for some reason does not have such parliamentary attention."

"That's why I would really like to see a committee set up to deal with NATO legislation, because we have very big challenges: The Washington summit, where we have to get a very good result for Ukraine, and for this there must be people who are institutionally engaged in these issues," explained Stefanchuk.
