SSU: Nine militants involved in "meaty" assaults on Ukrainian Armed Forces positions near Bakhmut and Lysychansk were served suspicion notices

The SBU collected evidence against 9 more traitors of Ukraine who voluntarily joined the Russian occupation groups and fought against the Defense Forces on the eastern front.

"Being part of the combat units of the Southern Military District of the Russian Armed Forces, they participated in the so-called "meat" assaults on the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the areas of Bakhmut and Lysychansk.

At the end of 2023, Ukrainian defenders captured the perpetrators during fierce battles near the villages of Klishchiivka and Spirne," the statement said.

Among the detainees are members of mortar crews and radio operators. Some militants have been captured by the Ukrainian defense for the second time.

Eight of the militants were found to be residents of the temporarily occupied settlements of Luhansk region, and the ninth was a resident of Crimea.

Most of them took part in hostilities against the ATO forces long before the start of the full-scale Russian invasion.

According to the investigation, one of the detainees captured Debaltseve in 2015. At the end of February 2022, the militants from the temporarily occupied areas of the Luhansk region joined the ranks of the 123rd Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 2nd Army Corps of the aggressor country.

In September 2023, another detainee signed a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense in the temporarily occupied Simferopol.

After arranging firing positions along the eastern front line, they were sent to join the assault groups of the ruscists to fire at the front lines of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Currently, SSU investigators have notified the prisoners of suspicion under the following articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: Art. 1, 2 of Art. 111 (high treason); Part 1 of Art. 258-3 (participation in a terrorist group or terrorist organization); Part 2 of Art. 260 (participation in the activities of paramilitary or armed groups not provided for by law).

The offenders face life imprisonment.
