"Rosatom plans to produce nuclear fuel jointly with French company Framatome SA

Kremlin-controlled Rosatom cooperates with France’s Framatome to produce nuclear fuel.

"Rosatom is working with the French state-owned company Framatome SA to collect the fuel needed for reactors that generate electricity for 100 million people in Eastern Europe: Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia still use Russian technology, Censor.NET reports, citing Ekonomichna Pravda.

Production is proposed to be organised at the Framatome plant in Lingen, Germany.

Last year, Framatome set up a joint venture with the Russian company TVEL Fuel. The new entity is seeking permission from the German government to transfer technology to the city.

TVEL is a subsidiary of the Kremlin-controlled Rosatom, the world's largest nuclear fuel supplier.

The new company, called European Hexagonal Fuel SAS, was set up to license Russian technology needed to produce reactor fuel, according to the shareholders' meeting of 18 January 2023, which were seen by Bloomberg. Its capitalisation was €8 million.

More than 10,000 Germans have registered their protest with the local government.

Previous attempts to expand operations in Lingen had raised suspicions, prompting an inspection by German regulators in 2021. Framatome's latest attempt sparked public outrage after the site manager told local lawmakers that Russian engineers would oversee the plant.
