Chervonohrad to be renamed Sheptytskyi, four more cities and 104 villages and towns to be renamed, - Lozynskyi, member of Verkhovna Rada committee

The Verkhovna Rada Committee on the Organization of State Power, Local Self-Government, Regional Development and Urban Planning decided to change the names of 5 Ukrainian cities and 104 villages and towns.
This was reported on Facebook by a member of the committee, MP Roman Lozynskyi, Censor.NET reports.
The Verkhovna Rada is going to de-Russify several settlements of Ukraine: the administrative center of Chervonohrad district of Lviv region - the city of Chervonohrad - will be renamed Sheptytsky, in honor of Metropolitan Andrii Sheptytskyi, and the city of Yuzhne in Odesa region will be called Port-Anental.
"There have been long discussions about Chervonohrad since 1994. The Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance and the result of the 1994 referendum said that Chervonohrad should be renamed Khrystynopil. Today, the committee supported the proposal to name it Sheptytskyi, which was discussed by the community," Lozynskyi said.
He also added that the name change will be finally approved by the Verkhovna Rada.
