The suspect in the murder of a teenager at a Kyiv funicular station on April 7 was taken from the pre-trial detention center to court to choose a preventive measure. The day before, on April 8, he was notified of being suspected of premeditated murder.
The suspect's lawyer, Konstantin Marchenko, asked at the beginning of the hearing to adjourn the hearing to familiarize himself with the documents. Prosecutor Iryna Osinska did not object, but asked for a reasonable time frame. The defense filed a second motion to hold the hearing in closed session. The court upheld the lawyer's request to hold a closed session, but the decision on the measure of restraint was made public.
The position of the father and the family of the deceased Maxim Materukhin regarding the measure of restraint for the suspect is that there is no alternative to detention.
The victim's representative, Oleksandr Panchenko, noted that, according to witnesses to the incident, the suspect was intoxicated. Witnesses also said that the conflict occurred because the man did not like something in the actions of the boys.
As a result of the hearing, the Pecherskyi District Court of Kyiv ruled to impose a preventive measure against the employee of the State Protection Department in the form of detention until June 5.
