Democrats take "unprecedented step" to save aid to Ukraine - Axios

Representatives of the Democratic Party deviated from the usual political norms in the United States in order to save the aid package, in particular for Ukraine.

According to Censor.NET, AXIOS writes about it.

According to the newspaper, this is the clearest evidence to date that the split majority of the Republican Party in the House of Representatives has actually changed into something resembling a bipartisan coalition.

For example, four Democrats on the House Rules Committee voted with five Republicans on the committee to champion a package of four bills for voting in the House of Representatives.

This step by the Democrats was necessary because three right-wing hardliners in the Republican Party - Thomas Massie, Ralph Norman, and Chip Roy - voted against bringing the bills to a vote. Without the Democrats' votes, further consideration of the bills would have been impossible.

"The Regulatory Committee is usually made up of loyal leaders who faithfully vote along party lines when bills are brought to the floor," Axios writes.

However, former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy appointed Massie, Norman, and Roy to the committee last year to appease right-wing hardliners who rebelled against his power struggle. This put control of the committee in the hands of Democrats, who are in the minority in the House and overwhelmingly support the package and are desperate to provide aid to Ukraine.

"This kind of unification of parties on the committee has not happened in my time here," said Congressman Dan Kildee, who has been in Congress for more than a decade. He noted that this step is "unprecedented".
