We will not change decision on strikes with German weapons deep into Russia, - Scholz

Німеччина не дозволятиме бити по РФ своєю зброєю

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that Berlin would not take steps that could lead to a direct clash with Russia.

He said this at a press conference, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrinform.

"All our decisions are weighed and made in such a way that it does not come to an escalation, so that the war between Russia and Ukraine does not turn into a war between Russia and NATO," the chancellor explained.

According to him, Germany does not plan to change its decision to refuse to transfer long-range missiles to Ukraine and to allow German weapons to strike deep into Russian territory.

Scholz also explained the partial lifting of the ban on a relatively small area by the fact that due to the Russian army's offensive in the Kharkiv sector, "something had to be done urgently" to prevent Russia from using the border as a protective screen for massive attacks on a major Ukrainian city.

"We have made it very clear: we will not fire our planes or missiles at Russia, and we will not send our soldiers," the chancellor said.

At the same time, Scholz emphasized Germany's readiness to support Ukraine with everything necessary and for as long as it takes.
