Next year, Kyiv will allocate no less funds to help AFU than in current year - Klytschko

Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klytschko

Next year, the Kyiv community will allocate no less money to help the Defense Forces than in 2024. And this year, support for the defenders from the Kyiv budget will amount to almost UAH 10 billion.

This was stated by Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klytschko and urged not to speculate on this topic, Censor.NET reports.

"There is no need to speculate on the topic of aid! Kyiv helps the military the most and will continue to do so next year. The overall support for the defenders and their families will be no less than this year! In general, the capital has already allocated more than UAH 9 billion from the budget to support the military in 2024. At the next session, we still have the opportunity to allocate 740 million this year. That is, in total, almost 10 billion," Klytschko said.

The mayor noted that last year, UAH 7.5 billion was allocated from the Kyiv budget for the needs of the Defense Forces.

Klytschko also emphasized that support for the Defense Forces is provided not only under the Kyiv Defender program.

"This is money for the purchase of necessary equipment by the units - drones, EW systems, vehicles, etc. And funds, in particular, for payments to the military and their families, housing, equipment of engineering structures, and rehabilitation. The Kyiv Defender targeted program is just one of the programs under which the capital helps the military. It is funded from two sources. The balance of funds from the previous year and budget overruns. We will have these figures at the beginning and throughout the year. They are used to allocate funds for this program. Also, assistance to the military and their families is financed from social support, housing, medical and other programs," Klytschko explained.

According to him, UAH 2.8 billion will be allocated to help the military under the Kyiv Defender program in 2025.

"The program will be funded in the first quarter of 2025. I will make a corresponding amendment to the draft budget on my initiative. Let me remind you that for 2024, this program was previously envisaged almost three times less," Klytschko emphasized.
