Five French MPs call on Defense Minister to send instructors to Ukraine

Five French MPs from different political groups have sent a letter to French Defense Minister Sebastian Lecornu calling for military instructors to be sent to Ukraine.
According to Censor.NET, the letter was published by MP Frédéric Petit.
"The intensity of the fighting and Russia's growing pressure in Donbas make us believe that the training currently being conducted by the military in France and Poland should continue on Ukrainian soil. We support the proposal to create a European coalition to send military instructors to Ukraine. Today, France can take a leading role in this coalition, along with the armies of the United Kingdom, Poland, the Baltic States and Scandinavia," the statement said.
It is also noted that at a time when the Russian Federation "is calling on thousands of North Korean soldiers to fight against the Ukrainian army, our response should be to increase direct support for Ukraine."
It is emphasized that France should not send soldiers to fight against the Russian army in Ukraine, but should send military instructors to train soldiers on Ukrainian soil.
"As the prospects for possible negotiations become clearer, France and European countries should not show any signs of weakness and should not allow their behavior to be dictated by the red lines drawn by the Kremlin," the statement said.
Deployment of NATO troops in Ukraine
At the end of February 2024, French President Macron said that "we cannot rule out" the possible deployment of Western troops to Ukraine. He later added that his resonant words had been carefully considered.
At the same time, the French president's statements provoked a negative reaction from the governments of the allied countries, whose leaders were quick to assure that they would not send troops.
Moscow reacted angrily to Macron's remarks, warning that the deployment of Western troops in Ukraine would inevitably lead to a conflict between Russia and NATO.
