Biden administration may not have time to use all $5.6 billion to help Ukraine - NYT

Biden may not have time to use funds to help Ukraine

Joe Biden's administration will probably not have time to use the $5.6 billion in military aid to Ukraine that Congress previously allocated before Donald Trump takes office.

This is reported by The New York Times, Censor.NET informs.

A Pentagon official said that the US presidential administration plans to announce additional aid to Ukraine allocated by Congress by the end of the year. However, it will be difficult to quickly allocate $5.6 billion before Trump takes office next month.

According to him, Biden will use part of the $5.6 billion that remains in his authority. This will allow the Pentagon's stockpiles to be transferred to Ukraine instead of waiting months or years for defense contractors to produce weapons under new contracts.

"We will continue to provide assistance until the end of this administration. But $5.6 billion is a significant amount of authority, so I assume that there will be authority left over that will be transferred to the next administration," he said.

The source added that the Biden administration is likely to use all $1.2 billion remaining in the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, which allows Kyiv to buy goods directly from the defense industry.

"Whether the Trump administration will use this money to help Ukraine is a big question. President-elect Donald Trump has been deeply skeptical of American support for Ukraine and has promised to end the war quickly," the publication concluded.
