Zelenskyy on conditions under which ceasefire is possible: security guarantees and weapons for Ukraine

Ukraine will be ready for a ceasefire if its partners supply it with weapons to repel possible future Russian attacks. Ukraine also needs security gurantees.
This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in a podcast by Lex Fridman published by the Presidential Office, Censor.NET reports.
According to the head of state, the first step towards ending the war should be a ceasefire, exchange of prisoners and then return of territories through diplomatic means.
He noted that if US President-elect Donald Trump signs a ceasefire without serious security guarantees for Ukraine, it will allow Russian dictator Putin to attack Ukraine again in the future.
"He's afraid of Trump today, and as soon as Trump agrees to a ceasefire without serious security guarantees for Ukraine, he will give Putin an opportunity, because Putin's goal is to quarrel me with Trump and end the occupation of Ukraine. That's why I told you - don't wait for Putin's wishes, make him stop the war," Zelenskyy said.
The Head of State noted that NATO could be a guarantee of security for Ukraine as a quick step. And he can talk to Donald Trump about this.
"Yes, we can talk about it with Trump. I think we can talk about security guarantees, but as a quick step. A quick step is NATO. Yes, I understand Trump's feelings. Yes, NATO means strong security guarantees for all people. This is part of the security guarantees," Zelenskyy said.
Another component, according to the president, is weapons. Ukraine needs weapons to repel possible Russian attacks in the future.
"If the ceasefire works, no one is going to use these weapons. But they should remain, not as before, with all due respect to the United States. I don't want the situation to repeat itself, as it was with Biden," Zelenskyy said.
