French socialist MPs concerned about Macron’s comments on Ukraine

French socialist MPs have criticized President Emmanuel Macron over his call for Ukraine to "hold realistic discussions on territorial issues" in the context of resolving the conflict with Russia.
This is stated in a statement published on the website of the Socialist Party of France, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrinform.
"This statement, which is completely untimely, as it is full of insinuations, makes the deputies express their deep concern," the statement reads.
The MPs called on the president to refrain from making statements that could harm international relations.
"No one can agree with the annexation of a part of Ukrainian territory by Russia. We must respect international law, which is our only compass. In this regard, only Ukraine can decide whether to open negotiations or not, on the terms it determines," the statement reads.
The French socialists reminded that France fully supports the just resistance to the aggressor and the territorial integrity of Ukraine:
"We recall our unwavering support for the Ukrainian resistance to allow the country to regain its full sovereignty within its internationally recognized borders of 1991. That is, with Crimea and Donbas," the deputies emphasized.
To recap, on Monday, January 6, Emmanuel Macron said that Ukraine should have "realistic discussions on territorial issues."
