Slovak opposition initiates vote of no confidence in Fico’s government

Fico threatens conflict over gas transit cuts

Slovak opposition MPs have announced that they will initiate a vote of no confidence in the government of Prime Minister Robert Fico in the coming days.

According to Censor.NET, citing Ukrinform, this was stated by the leaders of opposition parties at a press conference on Tuesday.

According to them, the Slovak prime minister is not coping with the process of governing the country.

Deputies from the Progressive Slovakia (PS), Freedom and Solidarity (SaS), Christian Democratic Movement (KDH), and factions of the Slovak Republic, For the People, and Christian Union (KU) parties pointed to problems in the healthcare sector, rising prices, and, most recently, in the land cadastre.

They also reported Fico's attempts to question Slovakia's foreign policy orientation. According to the deputies, they will not allow the prime minister to "take Slovakia to the east" because they believe that he does not have the authority to do so.

Fico calls on Zelenskyy for a meeting

Earlier, after a public exchange of harsh statements with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Fico called for a meeting to resolve the problems with gas transit.

Zelenskyy agreed to hold the meeting and wrote: "Okay. Come to Kyiv on Friday."
