Sikorski: Trump’s premature meeting with Putin will increase weight of Russian dictator

Sikorski told about loan for Ukraine

Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski believes that a meeting between Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump is inappropriate at this stage, as it could create the impression that the Russian dictator is more important than he is.

He said this during the "Ukrainian Breakfast" in Davos, Censor.NET reports.

"I would say that Putin has to earn a summit meeting, because if he gets it too soon, it will raise him above his importance and give him a false impression of the situation," Sikorski stressed.

The minister noted that President Trump is right to demand changes from Putin, not Ukraine. He also reminded that the current head of the Kremlin is an international exile and is accused of war crimes, including the abduction of Ukrainian children.

Sikorski stressed that Russia is in a difficult situation due to the economic downturn and defeat in the war. He expressed confidence that Ukraine will be able to continue the fight in 2025.

"President Trump has made a good start to his presidency by recognising that it is Putin who needs to change his position, not Ukraine. If I can advise something to the new administration, based on the depth of experience of a country that warned the rest of the West about Putin and was not always listened to, it is that this is not the Putin that President Trump knew during his first term," the Polish diplomat said.
