Sybiha on Trump’s call to Putin: We must increase pressure on Russia and force it to negotiate

Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha welcomed US President Donald Trump's position on the need to increase pressure on Russia.
He said this during a panel discussion Ukraine: The Road Ahead at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Censor.NET reports with reference to Interfax-Ukraine.
As a reminder, on January 22, Trump announced his readiness to impose high taxes, tariffs, and sanctions on Russian exports if an agreement to end the war in Ukraine is not reached soon.
"It was a really strong message and a strong signal. We have to increase pressure on Russia and force it to negotiate. We need U.S. leadership. We need more US involvement. This is point one," Sybiha said.
The Ukrainian Foreign Minister also emphasized three key aspects necessary to stop Russia's aggression:
- Increasing pressure on Russia. According to Sibiga, the international community must make the price for further aggression so high for Russia that it would force the Kremlin to start negotiations.
- Weakening Russia through sanctions: The minister emphasized the importance of strengthening the sanctions policy to help undermine Russia's economic and military capabilities.
- Strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities. "We need this deterrence package to stabilize the situation, first of all, on the battlefield, to strengthen our military defense capabilities," - emphasized Sibiga.
"We really welcome such strong statements from President Trump. And we believe that he will be a winner. And we believe that we have an additional chance to get a new dynamic in the diplomatic efforts to end this war and achieve a long-term just and comprehensive peace," Sybiha summarized.
