No peace talks can take place without Ukraine’s participation - Duda

Duda comments on potential peace talks between Ukraine and Russi

Polish President Andrzej Duda said that in the context of the prospect of concluding an agreement between Ukraine and Russia after US President Donald Trump takes office, no peace talks can take place without Kyiv's participation.

He said this in an interview with the BBC, Censor.NET reports.

"I say this as the president of the Republic of Poland, as a neighboring country to Ukraine, and as the president of a country that has gone through a very difficult historical experience," he said, recalling the events of World War II in this context.

Duda said that it would be a "violation of international law" to allow Russia to keep the territory it occupied in Ukraine.

The international community cannot agree, and it is unacceptable, that Russia has seized certain territories of Ukraine and is holding them by force. This is unacceptable. We must not allow Russia to win this war," the Polish president emphasized.

In this context, he added that Trump "understands the region" and that US involvement will be key.

"President Donald Trump - as the leader of the most powerful country in NATO, as the leader of the most powerful economy - will be key. I am calmly waiting for the first steps that Donald Trump will take," Duda summarized.
