Just and lasting peace will be chosen by Ukraine and Ukrainians, - Costa
The European Union will support Ukraine as long as necessary.
This was stated by the President of the European Council Antonio Costa, Censor.NET reports citing Interfax-Ukraine.
"The war in Ukraine is not only a war on European soil. It is a war that threatens the foundations of the entire international community. Rewarding the aggressor, rewarding the violation of territorial integrity is a threat to everyone. That is why our position is clear: The EU will support Ukraine for as long as it takes and as much as it needs. We will strengthen Ukraine's position in all circumstances for a comprehensive, just and lasting peace. A peace chosen by Ukraine and Ukrainians. This is the message we convey to President Zelenskyy every time. And we continue to do so," he emphasized.
Costa also said that the United States is a friend, ally and partner of the European Union.
"Problems and differences of opinion can arise between friends. When they do, we need to address them, talk about them, and find solutions," he said.
At the same time, Costa stated that it was the EU and the US that together were "pillars of the rules-based order, respecting national sovereignty, territorial integrity, border stability and the UN Charter."
"The European Union will still stand for this common respect for international law and the rules-based order in Ukraine, in the Middle East, in Africa and of course also in the Kingdom of Denmark. Especially when the territorial integrity of a European Union member state is called into question. The message I received from all 27 Member States at the table during yesterday's leaders' meeting was loud and clear on this issue," added the President of the European Council.
