In Germany, Russian oligarch Abramovich is suspected of violating Foreign Trade Act. Some of his assets have been seized

The General Prosecutor's Office of the Federal State of Hesse (Germany) is investigating Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich, who is suspected of violating the Law on Foreign Trade.

This is reported by Censor.NET with reference to DW.

As noted, in the town of Obersulm, located in southern Germany, four luxury cars worth several million euros were seized. These are two Bugatti Chiron, a Lamborghini Reventón, and a Mercedes CLK GTR. They can no longer be sold, leased, or pawned.

In addition, investigators from the Federal Criminal Police Office and the Central Office for the Enforcement of Sanctions searched the 19th-century Leitenschlössl villa in Garmisch-Partenkirchen several times. Several works of art were confiscated. Back in 2005, the local mayor said that Abramovich had bought the villa. Local residents also claimed to have seen the Russian oligarch there. The property is currently owned by Parados Limited from Luxembourg.

German investigators suspect that Abramovich owns the cars and the villa. He failed to notify the German authorities, thus violating the law.

The oligarch's lawyer said that he was not the ultimate owner of either the villa or the cars.

If found guilty, Abramovich faces up to a year in prison or a fine in Germany.

It should be noted that businessman Abramovich holds Russian, Israeli, and Portuguese citizenship. He is, in particular, the majority shareholder of the parent company Evraz, one of the leading Russian groups in the metals and mining sector.

After Russia's attack on Ukraine on February 24, 2022, the EU Council, among other things, froze the funds of leading businessmen engaged in economic sectors that are a significant source of income for the Russian government.
